Wilson disease (WD) is a rare genetic disorder resulting in excessive accumulation of copper in the body. WD is seen in children and young people. Symptoms include movement disorder, memory and behavioural problems, jaundice and bone pains. Untreated WD is uniformly fatal. Wilson disease is curable. Unfortunately, people with Wilson disease suffer considerable disability due to delay in diagnosis and inadequate treatment. Treatment involves taking drugs to eliminate excess copper (decoppering drugs).
